Frequently Asked Questions

๐ŸŽฎ What is a game jam?

A game jam is an event in which participants create a game in 48 hours.

You can work alone or as part of a team to shape any amazing and quirky notion into something playful and challenge yourself with new game ideas and technologies.

Usually they are hosted online, but Nordic Game Jam is a physical Game Jam located in Copenhagen, Denmark ๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ฐ

๐Ÿง Who can participate?

Everyone! Whether you have already worked with games, or never touched games before, this is the event for you! And game creation requires many types of people:

Programmers, Gameplay Designers, 2D/3D Artists, Playtesters, Producers, Sound Designers, Music Composers, Storytellers, etc. โ€” The roles are simply limited to the scope of the games!

Youโ€™d be surprised how many people make their first game ever at a game jam!

๐Ÿค Do I need a team to participate?

No! You can come with a pre-made team, but you can also find a team once youโ€™re here, or work solo!

We will do group forming events at the beginning of the jam, for all those who are alone and are interested in finding people to work with.

๐ŸŽค Why is the jam four days instead of three?

The jam itself is still 48 hours, running from Friday to Sunday. However, weโ€™ve put a lot of talks and workshops on Thursday and Friday, so you can attend them without taking time out of game-making!

๐Ÿฆ„ How is Nordic Game Jam different?

Nordic Game Jam provides a lot of other experiences next to making a game.

You get the chance to join game lectures or workshops of various levels and hear stories from industry experts, as well as relax, connect and be playful through a variety of fun activities and mingling sessions.

We like to hang out, do fun social activities, welcome mistakes and not be too serious about our presentations... It is games after all :-)

๐ŸŽ’ What do I need to bring?

You will be provided with a table, chair, power and Wi-Fi.

Your ticket also includes food for all breakfasts, lunches and dinners between Friday lunch and Sunday lunch (inclusive), plus sandwiches on Thursday!

Bring your own equipment such as laptop, keyboards, mouse, controllers, instruments, pen/paper, etc. We usually have some tools on-site for assistance, but in general, it is expected that you bring your own equipment.

Make sure to download and update your devices and tools before joining the event. A lot of people will be using the internet on the site, so to reduce the bandwidth for everyone please make sure to have everything prepared!

You cannot sleep on site! Read below for information on hostel discounts!

๐ŸŒŸ Can I volunteer?

Yes you can!

Volunteers get to come to the jam for free, in exchange for helping out with tasks such as preparing rooms, introducing talks and helping them run smoothly, and checking jammers in.

Our volunteer applications for NGJ 2025 are currently CLOSED. They will not open until one or two months before the jam; if you want to know when they open, join our Discord!

๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐ŸŽ“ How do student tickets work? Am I eligible?

Student tickets are open to anyone undergoing education at the time of the jam (April 2025), whether it is in a Danish institution or elsewhere. You will need to buy your ticket with your student email and bring your student ID to the jam so we can verify it during check-in.

Both university students and gymnasium / high school students are eligible for student tickets!

๐Ÿ‘• Can I still get a T-shirt if I buy a no-T-shirt ticket?

We will have some extra T-shirts for sale at the jam, and they will cost 150 kr. (the same as the difference between T-shirt and no-T-shirt tickets). However, we canโ€™t guarantee theyโ€™ll last long, so youโ€™ll want to secure yours early!

Also, sales of T-shirt tickets with close on March 3rd, so make sure you get yours before then!

๐Ÿฆฎ What accessibility measures do you offer?

๐Ÿค” Are Nordic Game Jam and Nordic Game / Nordic Game Conference related?

With the article published in 2022 on Gamesindustry.biz regarding the sexual harassment allegations connected to Nordic Game, we want to clarify the distinction between the two. Nordic Game Jam is not connected to Nordic Game in any way, and we have a strong code of conduct with a zero tolerance policy for disturbing the safe space the Jam needs.

You can read our Code of Conduct here. If you witness or experience any incidents, you can find a volunteer or organizer and speak to them for immediate help, or you can also file any complaints anonymously via this form. This code of conduct applies to all organizers, volunteers, speakers, sponsors, and of course the participants of the Jam.

While Nordic Game Jam and Nordic Game have worked together in previous years to plan the events close to one another, we decided to separate ourselves further, and now we make decisions separately, with our only goal being creating the best Jam for the nordic game dev community.
